Google is boosting the rate limit for its Gemini 2.5 Pro artificial intelligence (AI) model. On Wednesday, a business official stated that the AI model, which is presently exclusively available to premium members, will now allow users to submit 100 inquiries rather than 50. This new rate restriction applies solely to Google AI Pro customers, as the AI Ultra tier already has a higher rate limit. Notably, during Google I/O, the tech giant said that Pro subscribers will have "expanded access" to the AI model.
Google reveals Gemini 2.5 Pro's rate limit for professional users
Josh Woodward, Vice President of Google Labs and Gemini, announced the new rate limit for Google AI Pro members via X (previously known as Twitter). According to Woodward, the Gemini 2.5 Pro model will allow these customers to send 100 inquiries or messages each day, up from the existing rate restriction of 50 queries.
In this publication, Google also revealed the real rate limit for its paying members for the first time. The Mountain View-based IT behemoth typically refers to rate constraints with ambiguous words like "limited access," "expanded access," or "highest access". Notably, the rate limit doubling comes two weeks after the firm stated at its I/O event that it will boost premium customers' access to the Gemini 2.5 Pro model.
According to 9to5Google, the tech giant may have reduced the rate limit early this week after many heavy users claimed to have reached their limit. Unfortunately, there is no way to verify this.
At Google I/O, the firm formally relaunched the Gemini Advanced plan as Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscription. The AI Pro plan is priced the same as the Advanced plan, at Rs. 1,950 per month. The AI Ultra subscription, which is presently only available in the United States, costs $249.99 a month (roughly Rs. 21,500), which is approximately 11 times higher than the Pro plan.
For the time being, if a Pro plan user approaches the rate limit, they can wait for a reset (rate limits are reset every 24 hours), upgrade to the AI Ultra plan (if available), or switch to Gemini 2.5 Flash (which is not designed to handle more complicated queries).
